Can't find the answer you're looking for within the Segments articles? Here are some frequently asked questions about Segments, search for your answer in here! If you need additional help, send us a note at support@churnzero.net.
Is there a cap on the number of Segments that I and/or my team and company can create?
Nope! Segments are a linchpin in ChurnZero, you can - and should - create as many as you need.
A naming convention - such as beginning each Segment name with its general purpose - can help organize your list of Segments (ex: "Renewals - Next 30 Days", "Renewals - Next Quarter", "Onboarding - On Track", "Onboarding - Stuck").
Can I export my Segment results? I don't see that option.
Yes! To export your results, first you must select the records you want to export, or select all at the top of the grid. Once you have selected records, click the Bulk Actions button near the top right -- you'll see many available actions including an option for "Export".
Once you click Export you'll have the opportunity to define the exact fields/values you want to export. When you click "Okay", you'll receive a notification that the export is running.
When the Export is finished, a notification with a download link will be added to your Alerts Bar. You will also receive an email with a download link.
I followed all those steps, but I still don't see an Export option. What now?
If you do not see an "Export" option after select record(s) to export, this means that your ChurnZero user does not have permission to export. Please bring this to the attention of one of your ChurnZero administrators. They can adjust your specific permissions and/or the permissions of the group you are assigned to under Admin > User Accounts and Admin > User Permission Groups.
If I save a Segment as Private, can it be promoted up to Global if others want to use it?
If you have the necessary permissions to create Global Segments, yes, you can promote a Private Segment to Global status at any point.
But if you do not have the necessary permissions to create Global Segments, you will not be able to do this. We recommend having one of your ChurnZero Admins temporarily give you the necessary permissions if you have Private Segments that would be useful for others.
Is there a level between Private and Global, if I want to make a Segment available for my team but not everyone at my company?
No, at this time the only types of Segments you can create are Private Segments and Global Segments.
Can I reference a Segment I've already created in another Segment, even if it's a different type of Segment?
Yes! Look under the "Other Info" section of filters to find ways to reference previously created Segments within another Segment. You can even crossover Segments types; for example, you could create an Event Segment that looks for events in the last 7 days but only if they were done by accounts in the Account Segment "Enterprise Customers".
My Segment results are showing conflicting information from my Segment filters. Why?
Sometimes when you create Segments, the results can initially appear to contradict your filters if there is a mismatch between the date range your filter(s) are using and the date range your results are using.
Consider the results below. This Segment is looking for accounts that have had more than 0 Login events within the last 30 days. Yet when looking at the results, there are accounts with 0's for the Event Aggregate fields:
This is happening because there is a discrepancy between the date range on the Account Event > Login filter and the date range on the results. While the filter is looking at the last 30 days, the results are set to calculate aggregates from only the last 7 days. So that first account in the results - Abbott, Runte and Nikolaus - HAS logged in within the last 30 days, but NONE of those logins occurred in the last 7 days.
For guidance on changing the results view on Segments, check out this article.
Is there a way to hide Segments I create for exclusively Admin purposes (like to control ChurnScores, or to drive NPS Campaigns, for example).
No, at this time you cannot hide Segments. We recommend adopting a naming convention - like "ZZAdmin - [Segment Name Here]" - to make it clear which Segments are for administrative purposes only.
Can I share my Segment results view (i.e. my selected columns) with my team members?
At this time, no; the view of Segment results are unique to each ChurnZero user.
How often do Segments update? How "real-time" is the data?
When you view and/or edit a Segment, the results you see in the grid are updated immediately, so you can validate the filters you have employed.
Once you save a Segment, if that Segment is tied to other functions in ChurnZero - such as it drives a Play or triggers an Alert, or updates a Tag - ChurnZero continuously evaluates those Segments to keep them as close to real-time as possible.
If a Segment isn't tied to other functions in ChurnZero, ChurnZero evaluates those Segments less frequently, about every 15 minutes. But if you ever view one of those Segments and/or start using it to drive another function in ChurnZero, the Segment will be automatically promoted to the continuous evaluation.
Do I need to wait any amount of time between updating a Segment and using it?
It can take a 1-2 minutes for changes you make to a Segment to "trickle" to the rest of ChurnZero. But the scenarios where this short catch-up period will impact you are rare and extremely specific (for example, if you edited a Segment and then launch a Play based on that Segment, all within the same 60 seconds).
What is the maximum amount of values you can enter/paste into a segment filter?
The maximum number of lines of data that can be entered into any segment filter is 500. For example, if you attempt to paste 700 email address values into a Messages filter (Contact Engagement), only the first 500 email addresses will be listed in the filter field.
When filtering by last week vs previous week, which set of days is this
referring to?
Filtering by the last week vs previous week refers to the calendar week or from Sunday through Saturday of last week vs the calendar week before it. This is different than last 7 days which specifically refers to the last 7 days from yesterday. The same concept also applies to last month vs the previous month, i.e, the last calendar month compared to the one before it. Whereas, last 30 days would be 30 days before yesterday.
What does the "Internal ID" filter refer to?
The "Internal ID" filter that appears in the Account and Contact Attribute filters refers to the ID that appears in the URL of the Account/Contact page. This field also appears on the Admin > Sync Statuses page as the ChurnZero ID.
